About the service

Is this home care?

No. We provide non-medical household help: groceries, cooking, errands, paperwork and company. We don’t provide personal care such as bathing, dressing or toileting, nursing, or help with medication.

If those needs come up, we’ll help you find the right support, such as Ontario Health atHome in Ottawa or your CLSC in Gatineau.

Who is the service for?

Older adults who live at home, are safe on their own between visits, and would like a hand with the week’s essentials. Visits are often arranged by adult children, including those who live out of town.

Do you work in English and French?

Yes. Visits, updates, invoices and paperwork are available in either language.

Which areas do you serve?

Ottawa’s central neighbourhoods and nearby suburbs, and the Hull, Aylmer and Gatineau sectors of Gatineau. If you’re not sure, send us your street and we’ll confirm.

Visits and safety

Will it be the same person every time?

Yes. Each client has one regular helper, at a regular day and time. If your helper is ever away, we’ll tell you in advance and reschedule rather than send a stranger.

How do you handle money for groceries?

We never handle cash. Usually we pick up your online grocery order, so nothing changes hands. Otherwise we use a small prepaid balance that we top up with your permission. Every purchase is billed at cost with a photo of the receipt.

Can you drive me to appointments?

No, we don’t drive clients or ride with them in a vehicle. We’re happy to book a taxi, an accessible transit trip or a volunteer driver program for you, and we can run the errand ourselves.

What happens in an emergency?

Your helper calls 911 first, then your emergency contact. Helpers are trained in first aid and CPR, but they won’t lift or move someone who has fallen; that’s a job for paramedics.

Do I need to be home during visits?

For most visits, yes. For errands, we can leave items at your door or put them away if you’ve given us access. With your written permission, we can use a lockbox for keys.

What if my needs change?

We’ll talk about it openly with you and, if you like, your family. If you need personal or health care, we’ll help you find it, and where appropriate we can keep helping with groceries and meals alongside it.

Cost and paperwork

How much does it cost?

$62 per hour, or $45 per hour for a standing weekly visit, with a 2‑hour minimum. An errand run is $60 flat. Sales tax is extra, and purchases are billed at cost.

Is there a contract?

There’s a short service agreement that explains what we do and don’t do, prices and cancellations. There’s no minimum term: you can pause or stop anytime.

Can I claim this on my taxes?

In Québec, if you’re 70 or older, the tax credit for home-support services for seniors can refund 40% of eligible expenses. We provide compliant receipts. In Ontario, household help generally isn’t eligible. Eligible veterans may be covered by Veterans Affairs Canada’s Veterans Independence Program.

Can a family member arrange and pay for the service?

Yes, and many do. The person receiving help must agree to the visits. If someone signs on their behalf, we’ll ask about their authority, such as a power of attorney in Ontario or a protection mandate in Québec.

What information do you keep about me?

Only what we need to help: contact details, your address and access instructions, preferences, dietary restrictions, and who should receive visit updates. We don’t collect medical information. See our privacy policy for details.
